Pool fencing is a legal requirement in Queensland — but it doesn't have to be an eyesore. We compare frameless glass, semi-frameless, aluminium, and timber options.
Pool fencing is a legal requirement for all swimming pools in Queensland — but that doesn't mean it has to compromise your outdoor aesthetic. The right pool fence can actually enhance your pool area design.
Queensland Pool Fencing Requirements All pools in Queensland must be enclosed by a compliant pool fence. The fence must be at least 1.2m high, with no climbable elements within 900mm of the top of the fence. Self-closing, self-latching gates are required. Our team manages all compliance requirements as part of our service.
Frameless Glass Pool Fencing Frameless glass is the premium choice for pool fencing. It provides an unobstructed view of the pool area and creates a clean, contemporary aesthetic. Toughened safety glass panels are supported by stainless steel spigots set into the paving or ground. Cost: $400–$700 per metre installed.
Semi-Frameless Glass Semi-frameless glass uses aluminium posts at intervals rather than individual spigots. It's a more cost-effective alternative to fully frameless glass while still providing excellent visibility. Cost: $250–$450 per metre installed.
Aluminium Pool Fencing Powder-coated aluminium pool fencing is the most popular choice for budget-conscious homeowners. It's durable, low-maintenance, and available in a wide range of colours. Blade or slat styles can create a contemporary look. Cost: $150–$300 per metre installed.
Timber Pool Fencing Hardwood timber pool fencing creates a warm, natural aesthetic that suits tropical and hinterland properties. Merbau and Spotted Gum are popular species. Timber requires periodic maintenance (oiling) to maintain its appearance. Cost: $200–$400 per metre installed.
